When you see that there is a TikTok server error, this may be down to an actual TikTok issue or an issue with your device which you need to resolve. Depending on the error code you receive, you can find out more about what that specific code means.

Some frequent TikTok issues include:

  • Being unable to update your bio
  • The sharing video feature not working
  • Unable to login into your account
  • Videos not loading correctly

As the servers at TikTok are not something we are able to directly fix, we can help in the meantime with alternative troubleshooting methods to get you back on TikTok.

Stop using a VPN

If you are using a VPN, this may be a part of the problem. Although a VPN does provide you with online privacy, it can also make your internet connection glitchy at times. We’d recommend attempting to use TikTok without a VPN and see if the issue subsides.

Check your log in details

We’ve all been there, trying to login to our favorite apps or websites and being unable to do so. Therefore we’d recommend trying out all potential emails if you can’t login. As you may have used an older email or a different password.

If you attempt to reset your password you will be asked for your email, usually if this is incorrect TikTok will inform you of this.

Is TikTok down today?

To find out if TikTok is currently down, we recommend using the Down Detector which provides all of the latest information on whether a website/app is down or not. As often the issue can be one with your device as opposed to the whole app.

On the Down Detector, you will see how many outages have been reported, what the most reported problems are, and if they’ve been resolved.

The TikTok app is extremely popular, especially on iPhone devices. When you’re getting a server error on your iPhone for TikTok, here are some easy troubleshooting techniques to try:

Clear your cache

On an iPhone clearing your cache is super easy, here are the steps you need to take in order to do so:

  1. Go to the home screen and click the settings cog
  2. Then choose Safari and you should find an option to remove cache and save data halfway down the page
  3. Click this and any saved data will be removed on your browsers.

Check your internet connection

Although it seems obvious, a lot of users come into issues when their wifi isn’t working correctly. Be sure to test your phone on other apps/web browsers to notice if the same issues are happening. If they are, we’d recommend doing a full reset of your wifi router, in order to do this you need to:

  • Turn off the back of your router, then unplug it
  • Allow 30-60 seconds, then plug your router back in
  • This may take a few minutes, so allow this time to pass before attempting to use your internet again.

Is the latest app downloaded?

Most of us are guilty of not updating our apps as often as we should. Especially when we do it manually. When we don’t update our apps, we are left with the previous version. Often apps do regular updates for bugs and other functionality issues. Therefore checking your app is running the latest version is important.

If you regularly forget to update your iPhone apps, you can set them to automatically update.

You can do this by going on settings and searching updates, then you will be greeted with two options – software update and app update, click the app update. Next toggle on the app updates option at the top of the page. This will remove the issue of manually needing to do it.

How to fix TikTok server error

Depending on the error will depend on the fix of the TikTok server error, whether you need to clear your cache, update your app or there is a more complex error, we are happy to help with any troubleshooting inquiries you may have when using TikTok.
