BT Broadband Fluctuating Bandwidth: Fix Your Speed

The volume of information sent and received via your BT broadband connection can vary, fluctuating bandwidth can decrease and increase your download speed.

British Telecom is one of the leading ISPs in the UK and offers some of the fastest and most competitive internet packages on the market with some options offering way over 100 Mbps customers can usually look forward to a stable fast bandwidth and consistent connection.

From time to time like many internet service providers you may experience fluctuating bandwidth when surfing the web using your BT broadband, this is why we have created this simple guide to help locate the cause of your fluctuation and help you to secure a consistent, secure bandwidth when using your BT broadband.

Why does my BT bandwidth fluctuate so much?

When you have just had your BT broadband installed you may notice fluctuating bandwidth due to the stabilization period this process normally takes around 8 to 12 days and will result in a more consistent connection and bandwidth, as your connection reaches its maximum hertz frequency.

Placement of your HUB and rooter can affect your BT bandwidth as the walls in your home can block the signal that you receive, applications, devices, and programs running in the background can also play a part in lowering your bandwidth as streaming sites and downloads taking place in another room of your home can decrease the amount of bandwidth available for you to use.

During certain hours throughout the day you may notice a reduction in your bandwidth this can be due to a lot of people trying to access the internet all at once, this may be due to a huge sporting event or new release on a streaming service.

    Is BT throttling my broadband?

BT does not restrict the speed of the services they provide so it is very unlikely that the decrease in your broadband bandwidth is due to BT themselves restricting the speed of your download or upload.

Internet congestion can occur at peak times when many users connect at the same time, this could be the cause of your fluctuation and has nothing to do with BT throttling your service.

If all of a sudden you notice your bandwidth slowdown check to see if a pattern is taking place at similar times throughout the day.

(Did you know: BT trialed their first ever high-speed internet back in 1992 this was then made available commercially by Telewest in 2000)

How to increase bt broadband bandwidth

Moving your HUB or rooter to the center of the property and ensuring it is in an open space can help increase your bandwidth.

If your BT broadband continues to fluctuate taking these steps could help to maximize your connection and increase your bandwidth.

Step 1. Using an ethernet cable to directly link your device to the HUB is a great way of securing your maximum bandwidth as this does not require a signal to be sent via WiFi

Step 2. Make sure to check that your firmware is up to date, an outdated version could be causing the fluctuation of your broadband bandwidth.

You can simply update your firmware by using your BT app and checking for the latest version.

Step 3. Is the router itself outdated? if you have been with BT for a long time chances are there may be a new router available, get in contact and ask them if there is a newer version that can be sent to you.

Step 4. Reboot the BT HUB by simply holding the power button, once the lights turn off wait for 30 seconds before turning the HUB back on, when you turn the HUB back on wait for the Green light to become a solid Blue light as this displays that your HUB was able to successfully establish a connection.

Step 5. Using an internet booster can help secure a faster connection especially if you are in a room that is located far away from the main BT hub, once installed it is likely that you will receive more bandwidth

What is the fastest broadband service by BT

BT’s super-fast service called full fibre is the company’s next generation rapid broadband.

With download speeds of up to 900mbs and equally as fast upload speeds, having this service installed in your premises is especially good if you have multiple devices that require a connection.

With no copper cables, it is by far the most reliable broadband solution from BT.

    Conclusion

Your BT internet connection will take some time to establish itself after it has just been installed so be prepared to wait for around 10 days for an accurate reflection of the bandwidth, by following our steps in this guide we hope you have been able to maximize the bandwidth you receive through your BT broadband.

BT themselves offer great assistance to their customers so we highly recommend contacting them if your broadband continues to fluctuate

  • iRobot Roomba Vacuum Not Working: How To Fix Your Cleaning Device

iRobot Roomba Vacuum Not Working: How To Fix Your Cleaning Device

Problems that occur when the iRobot Roomba vacuum is not working include, the Roomba not switching on, it not charging properly, or failing to pick up the debris on the floor.

As you can control your cleaning device via the iRobot app on your mobile, there may be a connection problem that is behind the cause of these problems.

Changing the device’s batteries, or resetting the software can help fix these issues.

We have formed this simple guide to help you understand why your iRobot Roomba vacuum is not working, and what steps will fix this problem, so your Roomba can get back to cleaning your floors while it navigates around your home.

Why is my Roomba not vacuuming?

    irobot roomba vacuum not working
Why is my Roomba not working

    Your Roomba is not vacuuming due to the following reasons;

    Reason 1. Battery issue

The iRobot will automatically put itself onto the dock to charge once it has completed the cleaning cycle.

If your vacuum’s battery cannot hold any power, the device will not be able to work after it has left its home base.

The batteries could be faulty or drained.

NB; Your Roomba will not charge if the batteries are too hot or too cold.

    Reason 2. Built-up debris

    If you do not clean your vacuum after it has performed, debris will start to build up;

    • Over the sensors
    • In the battery
    • Around the buttons
    • In between the brushes

The dust bin also needs to be emptied frequently as your device will not be able to pick up any more dirt if the bin is too full.

An overload of dust will make the Roomba more susceptible to getting stuck because it can block the wheels from being able to rotate.

Reason 3. Mobile app not working

You can control your iRobot vacuum through the mobile app.

If you are experiencing connection issues with your internet, your phone will not be able to connect and instruct your Roomba.

Your mobile and cleaning device could be connected to two different Wifi networks, or, your iRobot has not been able to pick up your network to connect online.

    Reason 4. Software issue

If your device is fully charged and your iRobot Roomba is still not working, this will be a sign that the software of your device is faulty.

This can be from the memory data being corrupted.

(Fun Fact: The first iRobot Roomba was launched in 2002, but iRobot has been around since 1990).

What do you do if your Roomba stops working?

Fix 3. Check mobile app network settings

If your mobile app is not working, there could be a connection issue with your network.

First, make sure your network service provider is delivering adequate bandwidth speeds.

Occasionally, your internet can drop in and out of its connection. A reset of your router will help refresh the connection and aid in making the network visible.

Step 1. Turn your router off and unplug it

Step 2. After a couple of minutes, switch it back on

Check to see if the app has reconnected.

    If this does not work, you may need to reinstall the iRobot app;

Step 1. On the app, remove your Roomba as a ‘Known Device’

    Step 2. Uninstall/delete the app

Step 3. Search for the app and reinstall it

Once the install has been completed, open the app and search for your Roomba to add it as a device.

    Fix 4. Reset Roomba device

If the software on your Roomba is corrupted, resetting the device will get rid of any contaminated files stored in its memory.

    We advise you to perform a Soft Reset first;

Step 1. At the same time, press down on the ‘Start’ and ‘Dock’ buttons on your Roomba

Step 2. Once you hear a ‘beep’ release the buttons

Step 3. Plug your vacuum back in

Depending on what Roomba model you have, there will be a ‘Reset’ button on the device. You can press down on this button for 15 seconds.

A Hard Reset will erase all saved data on your iRobot and return the device to its ‘default’ settings.

Step 1. Place your device on charge (either on its docking station or plugged in)

Step 2. Hold down the ‘Clean’ button until you see ‘r 5Y’

Step 3. Let go of the button

You should hear a ‘beep’ which will confirm the reset is complete.

    Conclusion

Your iRobot Roomba should now be automatically detecting dust and manoeuvring around your floors without any hassle.

If, for some reason you are still experiencing issues with your iRobot Roomba Vacuum not working, you can contact Roomba’s customer care team via email or speak to someone directly on 0208 8653171.

Their operating hours are Monday to Friday, 9 am to 7 pm.

If you need to contact iRobot outside the UK, you can make use of their ‘International Distributor’ by choosing where you are calling from.

Make sure you have your Roomba’s serial number before contacting their support team. You will be able to find it on a black and white sticker.

  • Roomba Won’t Connect To Network: Here’s How To Fix Your Vacuum

Roomba Won’t Connect To Network: Here’s How To Fix Your Vacuum

When the robot vacuum Roomba won’t connect to your network, you will have limited access to the automated features.

Performing a quick device reset, followed by ensuring there is no disruption in service from your internet service provider should be the first two actions you take to connect your Roomba to the network.

If the Roomba is still failing to connect, our step by step guide will take a look at all the possible reasons that the auto vacuum won’t connect to the internet, and provide you with the necessary fixes you need, to get your iRobot connected today.

    Why won’t my Roomba connect

    Roomba won't connect to network
Why won’t Roomba connect to network

Your Roomba vacuum cleaner won’t connect to your network if there is a problem with your Wifi, or your iRobot is experiencing issues with its internal software.

    Reason 1. Home network issue

If there is a problem with your home Wifi, your Roomba won’t be able to pick up the network to connect to.

The robotic hoover requires a strong connection that will allow the device to stay connected while it moves around to different areas of your home.

Your network service provider could be down when you’re trying to connect your Roomba.

Reason 2. Not enough network range

Your network range may not be reaching certain areas in your home where your vacuum cleaner is moving to.

If your Roomba is too far from your router, it will not be able to establish a connection.

    Reason 3. iRobot software issue

If the firmware of your Roomba is problematic due to contaminated software, this will interfere with your robot functioning properly, hampering the connection process.

The internal network receiver in your Roomba could be experiencing issues.

Reason 4. The home base is placed too far

You need to place the home base of your Roomba near your Wifi router.

If you have positioned it too far away, this will interfere with the device connecting to your network.

Reason 5. The initial setup process was not done correctly

When you complete the initial setup phase of your Roomba, it needs to be done properly with the iRobot mobile app.

Why is your Roomba WIFI flashing green?

Your Roomba should flash green or blue when you first connect it to your network. If you did not have a green light flashing when you first set your Roomba up, this will mean the process was not completed successfully.

    Reason 6. Incorrect network frequency

Roomba vacuum cleaners will work on a frequency of 2.4GHz. This frequency provides a larger range compared to 5GHz.

Most of the time, there is confusion between this frequency and 5GHz. A few of the Roomba models do not support 5GHz.

How do I reconnect my Roomba to my network?

    Roomba won't connect to network
How to connect Roomba to network

You can get your Roomba connected to your network by checking your home internet connection and the software of your vacuum cleaner.

Fix 1. Check your internet connection

Check your internet connection to make sure it is providing a strong, secure connection.

Your network service provider might be down for maintenance, in which case you would need to wait until it is back up and running.

To check if your network is providing adequate bandwidth speeds, you can click here.

Fix 2. Bring the home base closer to your router

Moving Roomba’s home base closer to where your Wifi modem is positioned will help the signal strength between your network and vacuum cleaner.

    Fix 3. Reset your Roomba

Your Roomba will automatically update its software when it is connected to your Wifi, and when it is placed on its home base.

If you think your smart vacuum is experiencing a software issue, you can do a hard reset on your device.

Step 7. You should see a green or blue flashing light

Step 8. On the mobile app, click ‘I Pressed the Buttons’

You can now select ‘Continue’ to confirm your device has been connected successfully.

    Roomba incompatible routers

You may have a Wifi router that is incompatible with the Roomba vacuum, which is why your robot cleaner is not connecting to your network.

    Make sure your router is not the problem for your connection issue;

    Make Model
    Cisco RE1000
    D-Link DIR-300
    Logitec LAN-W300N/RSB
    Microsoft MN-700

    Make Fix
Cisco Change security setting to anything but WEP128 (WPA2 may need more than 1 setup attempt)
D-Link Try setting up more than once
Microsoft iOS app may need more than one setup attempt
Motorola Change security setting to anything but WEP128
Western Digital Change channel width to ‘Auto’

    Conclusion

Once connected to your network, returning to dust-free vinyl floors, compliments of your Roomba are now made possible.

If you have followed each of the steps in this guide, but for some reason, the Roomba still won’t connect to your network you can contact their customer support team directly on 0208 8653171 or 01 247 54 28 (for Ireland).

If you prefer to send them an email, you can complete their online form.

In rare cases, there may be a problem with your vacuum hardware so returning your device to the manufacturer could be an option if all else fails.

Make sure you check out iRobot’s return instructions.

The lights on your Google Home Mini can mean various things, these are some of the common reasons you may see different lights on your Mini:

    • The device is starting up
    • Google is thinking
    • Your microphone is off
    • You are not connected to the internet
    • The Home Mini needs setting up again

Whether you’ve noticed a flashing light, different colors, or no lights at all, here’s a list of what each of the Google Home lights means.

What do the Google Home Mini Lights mean?

    @sibuet via Twenty20

Here is a breakdown of what each of the colored lights means and how to fix them.

    White lights

The most common color light on a Google Mini is white, as this light is used for a lot of different things. However, depending on how many lights and the pattern of the sequence will vary on what they mean.

    4 white lights:

This appears you’ve said ‘Hey Google’ and the device is waiting for a question

    4 white lights then fade:

When you speak to Google but the command isn’t understood, if you still need an answer, ask again

White lights run from left to right:

    Your Google assistant is thinking

    White lights continuously pulse:

Google is providing a response to your question/request

White lights flash twice and then fade:

Google understands your request, but it doesn’t require a response such as changing the song.

All the colors – Red, Blue, Orange and Green

    Google Home Mini Lights
    @sibuet via Twenty20

All of the colors (red, blue, orange, and green) at one time on your Google Mini just advises that your speaker is booting up. Allow it time to do this, once these lights are gone you should be able to use your speaker.

These lights will move from left to right and are nothing to worry about.

    Orange lights

When your Google Home presents 4 orange lights, this means the microphone is turned off. Therefore Google can’t detect any requests or respond. If you turned this off in error, not to worry it’s easy enough to turn back on.

    • Next to the power cable, there should be a raised button
    • Slide this across and you should be greeted with ‘your microphone is on’, vice versa if you are turning the mic off.

If your Google Home Mini starts having orange lights that are going up one by one, it means you need to factory reset the device. We have broken this down into easy steps in order to make resetting your Google Home easier.

Here’s how to factory reset your device:

    1. Switch the mic off on your Google Home via using the slider, the lights will turn orange
    2. Press and hold the center of the Mini where the lights are
    3. After 5 seconds the device will begin to factory reset
    4. Keep holding for a further 10 seconds or until a sound confirms the device reset.
    5. Once this is done you will be greeted with a device that acts like it is new, so you will need to go through the setup process again.

    Red lights

As with most devices, red lights on a Google Home Mini are due to an error. On the Google Home Mini, you will see 2 solid red lights when there is an issue. This error usually occurs when something happens during an update.

If your device is experiencing the two solid red lights, here’s how to fix this issue:

    1. Use the cable which came is in the box as opposed to alternative cable
    2. Plug your Google Home Mini into the wall socket
    3. Then unplug the device
    4. Wait 10 minutes, then plug it back in.
    5. Allow the device time to start up
    6. If the error happens again repeat the above steps

    Blue lights

If you notice 4 blue lights on your Google Home Mini, this means your Google Mini is verifying the device. If you notice the blue lights haven’t gone away after 10 minutes, then you will need to factory reset your Google Home Mini.

    Useful Google Home Mini Commands

Google also has a range of touch commands, although the majority of them can be done via voice. Here are some commands that can be done via touch:

    Stop and start

Without speaking to Google you can stop and start media, via tapping the middle of your Google Home Mini, these commands include:

    • Play, pause and stop your music
    • End a call
    • Stop a ringing alarm or timer

    Volume commands

How to fix Google Home Mini issues

Google Home Mini Keeps Saying Something Went Wrong
Photo by Thomas Kolnowski on Unsplash

If your Google Home mini is experiencing the ‘something went wrong error’, we have some quick and easy troubleshooting tips to get your Mini back in order.

Fix 1. Reboot your Google Mini

Although this may seem like an obvious fix, rebooting your Google Mini can actually help to resolve a lot of issues. Especially when your device has become disconnected from the internet. To reboot your Google Mini all you need to do is unplug the device from the power, wait a few minutes, plug it back in and then allow another few minutes for it to start up.

You will know when your device is ready as it will say ‘I’m your Google assistant’. When this happens you will have to set up your device via the Google Home app. Treat it like it is a whole new device. This allows you to then reconnect and see if your issue has been resolved.

Fix 2. Reset your device your Google Home Mini

If rebooting your device didn’t work, next we’d recommend resetting the device, here are the steps in order to do this:

    1. Press and hold the small button underneath the device for 20 seconds
    2. After this time you will hear a tone, which advises the device is now resetting
    3. Remove your finger and follow your device to restart
    4. Once this has been set up, you may need to reset your device in the Google Home app, however, this issue is fairly straightforward.

However, if this method was not successful, we’d advise checking out our next easy fix.

Fix 3. Change Google Assistant language

Next, we’d recommend changing the language of your Google Assistant. Obviously, you will want to use a language you understand. If you are English speaking and your Google device struggles to understand you, this is an ideal way to fix this.

Within your Google Home Mini, there are many variations of language variations. From American English to British English and even different parts of the UK such as Irish. If you’re unsure how on how to change these settings, here’s how to do so:

    1. Open the Google Home app
    2. Select your picture in the top right-hand corner
    3. Choose Assistant settings
    4. Followed by Assistant voice
    5. Then choose your language from a drop-down
    6. If you use more than one language you can select a second one below.

Fix 4. Check your internet speed

If you are so far not having any success with fixing the issue at hand, we’d recommend turning your attention to your internet connection. As your Google Home Mini does require a strong internet connection in order for it to work.

Before rebooting your router, it’s worth seeing if the internet connection is a problem first. You can do this by using a Speed Test site. By allowing the site to run a quick test on your connection, you will be able to find out how strong your connection is.

For download speed, the higher the number the better, but the will vary depending on your package. Find your maximum speeds from your Broadband provider and decide whether this is high enough. However, if you notice you are not getting good speeds, we’d recommend rebooting your router.

    How to reboot your router

If the above hasn’t been successful, we’d next advise you to reboot your router. If you are unsure of to do this, here’s how:

    1. Unplug your router at the wall
    2. Allow the router to switch off completely
    3. Wait 3 minutes
    4. Plug the router back in
    5. Allow a further 5 minutes for the router to be up and running again.

You can then retest your speed and see if this is any better.

Fix 5. Update the Google Home app

Another simple fix is to update the Google Home app, as the device is run through the app primarily. In order to make sure you are running the latest version of the app, head to the Google Play Store or the App Store. Search ‘Google Home’ then if there is a button to press update, click this and allow your app to update.

Regardless of what your issue is with the Google Mini, getting it to connect is important as without this you will be unable to use it. Therefore we have some easy fixes to allow you to use your Google Mini once again.

Fix 1. Restart your Google Home Mini

Have you tried turning it off and on again? This tends to be the most common solution to many problems with technology. Although it seems simple, it can be an effective fix for a lot of tech problems. If you’re unsure of how to restart your Google Home Mini, here’s how:

    1. Switch off your phone completely
    2. Next disconnect your Google Home Mini from the power, e.g. unplugging it at the wall or taking the wire out
    3. Leave your Google Mini turned off for 5 minutes
    4. Turn your phone back on
    5. Next replug the Google Home Mini, allow time for this to start back up properly
    6. Retry the Google Home Mini set up.

However, if this fix was not successful, you do not worry as we have plenty of other easy fixes.

    Fix 2. Switch between 2.4GHz and 5GHz

It is likely that if you have a dual broadband router then you will be able to switch between two channels, 2.5GHz and 5GHz. Your devices will only connect to one at a time, but depending on what has a stronger signal and what the device supports. If you have an older model of phone it is likely your phone will only be able to use 2.4GHz therefore this method won’t be effective.

However, if you are using a device that allows a switch between the two doing this can help to reset the connection to the Google Home device. Your Google Home is set to mirror what your smart device is doing.

If you are already on 5GHz try switching to 2.4GHz, if you’re unsure how here are some easy steps to do so:

    1. Head to Settings on your phone
    2. Followed by Wifi then select your Wifi name – and mostly likely 2.5GHz
    3. Choose the network ending in 5GHz instead (however, if this doesn’t come up it’s likely that your device does not support this)
    4. Connect to this, allow your Google Home some time to switch and then try to speak to your Google Home again.

Fix 3. Make sure your Google Mini app is up to date

Although this seems obvious if you don’t have your phone or tablet set to auto-update you may miss updates for apps, without even knowing. If you’re unsure of how to update your apps here’s how:

    1. Head to the Play Store or the App Store on your device
    2. Search for ‘Google Home’ then next to the app it should say ‘update’ if one is required
    3. After pressing update allow your phone time to update
    4. Once updated, try to speak to your Google Home and see if there is any communication

Fix 4. Unplugging the Google Home fix

The unplug method can be a successful method, but it does require patience and a little bit of time. The way in which this method works is:

    • Unplugging your Google Home Mini from the wall
    • Plug it back in and wait for the lights to come on as it starts up
    • Then unplug it again, repeat this a further 10 times (be sure to count how many times you’ve done this)
    • On the 11th plugin, allow your device to load up as before, once loaded, follow with ‘Hey Google’
    • Your Google Home will then advise you to set it up from the Google Home app, although this may seem annoying, it usually fixes the device.

However, if this method does not work for you, we’d recommend following our next fixes.

Fix 5. Move your Google Mini closer to your router

Although the Google Mini is supposed to work from a distance, users have found that moving the device closer to the router does help with your connection dropouts. Plug your speaker in near your router and see if this makes a difference. If you find it does, it was likely that your device was too far away from the router, therefore struggling to keep a strong and stable connection.

Fix 6. Try manually connecting to the device hotspot

The next method on our list is to manually connect to the device hotspot, if you’re unsure how to do this, not to worry as we have broken this down into easy steps. Here’s how to manually connect to the device hotspot.

    1. Go to your Wifi settings on your mobile/tablet
    2. Open the list of Wifi networks, and look for one which states ‘GoogleHome’ followed by numbers, your device may also still hold any names it has been given since then
    3. Select the device and see if it will let you connect this way
    4. If you can successfully connect this way, open the Google Home app again and try set up the device as you would with a new Google Home Mini.

Fix 7. Airplane Mode On and Off

Following on from this, if you’re still having issues we’d recommend trying to turn Airplane Mode on. By doing this you are closing down all connectivity to your phone. Next head to settings and turn on Wifi manually. This will turn your Airplane mode off automatically.

Once this has happened, allow a few minutes for the app to reboot then try again.

This method may result in you needing to restart the Google Home Mini, including setting up the data again.

    Conclusion

Whether you’re a tech novice or an expert, trying to resolve issues with a device can be confusing. Not to mention long-winded! Therefore, we hope one of these suggestions is an Easy Fix to your Google Home Mini issues. We hope these tips have been useful when your Google Mini won’t connect and hope you are able to reconnect soon.

With the Roomba vacuum manufactured to work at an optimum level, if anything is not working at its best degree, an error code will appear.

Why does my Roomba keep saying error 14

Photo by Pawel Czerwinski on Unsplash

If you have a Roomba model 600, 700, or 800, you may be witnessing an Error 14 or Error 1-4 on your hoover.

This error code relates to the bin part of your Roomba vacuum.

An error code could be coming up on your Roomba for the bin because it has not been closed securely, or parts of the bin are faulty, causing the bin to be seen as not installed properly.

This then means the Roomba will not begin the cleaning process because it is seen as there is no bin for the contents to go into.

Another reason why your Roomba may be experiencing this issue is if you perhaps haven’t cleaned out the bin area for quite some time, causing it to become too full.

How do I fix Error 14 on Roomba

    Fixing a robot
How do I fix my Roomba error

If you are asking yourself, ‘How do I fix my Roomba error’, this can be done in a few simple steps.

    Fix 1. Clean your Roomba

Error 14 on your Roomba is transpired because your bin is seen as not installed. So the first thing to do is to ensure you have completely cleaned its contents and that there is no more trace of built-up dust and dirt in the bin as well as on its connectors.

Step 1. Turn your Roomba over so its bottom is facing upwards

Step 2. The screws on the bottom of the Roomba can be unscrewed

Step 3. Once the bin has been unscrewed, disassemble the parts so you can get inside.

It is advised to use a hairdryer to blow out all the dust that is surrounding the fan in the Roomba. A brush is also a good tool for cleaning the contents in the center of the vacuum.

Step 4. Clean out every other part of the vacuum, eg; the vent

Step 5. Move the fan in the vacuum to make sure it is moving smoothly and without getting stuck

Step 6. Put the Roomba back together again, screwing it closed.

Your Roomba should now detect an installed bin.

    Fix 2. Reinsert the bin

Your Roomba may not be recognising that the bin has been installed because you did not insert it back in properly.

Removing the bin and reinserting it, making sure you have done so correctly may just do the trick and install the bin securely without any errors.

    Fix 3. Reboot the battery

Removing the battery from your Roomba will reset any changes you have made, and remove any bugs or faulty software that may be causing the Roomba to inadvertently suspect that no bin has been installed.

Remove the battery and wait a couple of minutes before placing it back in.

    Fix 4. Reset your Roomba

Resetting your Roomba is similar to rebooting the battery, and can help reset the Roomba’s software.

Step 1. Press down on the ‘Clean’ button for 20 seconds

Step 2. Repeat Step 1 another two times

Step 3. After the third time, your Roomba will turn back on. Wait a minute or two before attempting to switch on the cleaning mode.

Your vacuum should now recognize that a bin is installed.

Fix 5. Check the Roomba is securely closed

Your Roomba may not detect an installed bin because the bin has not been properly closed in or some of the connections are too loose where your bin gets assembled.

Check to see that everything is connected securely as a tight fit will ensure the bin gets recognized.

    Fix 6. Replace the bin

Replacing the bin would be the last resort if you are still experiencing the error 14 code.

If your bin happened to be faulty, a new one would eradicate any issues with not being able to pick up the bin being installed.

A bin replacement can be found on the iRobot website, or even on Amazon or Ebay.

How do I know when Roomba bin is full

With the Roomba vacuum being run by technology, it has an iRobot app that you can use to tell your Roomba what to do and even schedule it to turn on and complete a clean.

You will be able to see if your Roomba bin is full by using the iRobot app on your mobile device, otherwise, there will be a dustbin light that will flash red on the top of your Roomba, confirming that it is full and needs to be emptied.

It is recommended, however, to empty out your bin after every use as this will prolong the longevity of your device and avoid any issues, like error 14 that may come with a bin that is too full.

Why Won’t My Roomba Connect to My Wi-Fi

Are you bamboozled by the question of why won’t my Roomba connect to my Wi-Fi network? Here’s everything you need to know about fixing the common network connectivity issues with the Roomba vacuum.

We might be hoping for flying cars in 2020 and be disappointed by the lack of it, but we forget to appreciate how far technology has actually come. In the home and lifestyle space, smart devices have made our lives simpler through automation, and one of the most significant advancements we’ve made in the lifestyle space is with the robot vacuum cleaners.

    Related Posts:

Roomba has been a popular name in the space, with self-operational vacuum cleaners that silently do their job without any significant intervention required. The ability of Roomba vacuums to connect with the smart home system through Google Home or Amazon Alexa, makes it all the more convenient, but what do you do when your Roomba refuses to connect to your home Wi-Fi network?

Why Won’t My Roomba Connect to My Wi-Fi

The problem of the Roomba not connecting to the Wi-Fi network certainly isn’t a new one, and there have been plenty of tried and tested solutions out there. Before you give up on the idea of having your robot vacuum cleaner connected with your futuristic smart home, here are some fixes to try out.

Fix #1: Check the Wi-Fi network status

This may sound like a no-brainer, but you’ll be surprised by how often the point of origin of the issue is not the Roomba, but the wireless network. Before you start wondering what is wrong with the vacuum device, pay some attention to the wireless network by connecting any other device to it and performing a quick check.

Wi‑Fi or Ethernet: Which is faster and which is safer? | WeLiveSecurity

You can also perform a quick reset on the wireless router, which can also resolve most network related issues in an instant. Unplug the wireless router from the power source, wait for 30 seconds, and plug it back in. Try connecting the Roomba to the wireless network using the app to see if the problem has been fixed.

Fix #2: Check wireless router range

The Roomba is designed to sweep across the entire floor surface of your house, keeping things clean and tidy. However, wireless routers are notoriously known for leaving out certain areas of the household when it comes to network connectivity, and this could mean no connectivity for the robot vacuum in certain areas of the house.

Internet Speed Today: The Evolution of Home Wi-Fi | Linksys

Ideally, you need to make sure that the Home Base of the Roomba is not too far away from the main router. A distance of around 2 – 3 feet from the wireless router should give the vacuum cleaner plenty of wireless connectivity on the go.

Fix 3#: Consider the Wi-Fi frequency

The latest models of the Roomba, such as Roomba i7, i7+, s9, s9+, and even the older Roomba e5, 805, 890, 960, 980, 985 are known to rarely give back any wireless networking issues. However, the same cannot be said about the 600 series.

If you own the older Roomba 614, 670, 671, 675, 690, the devices will only support 2.4GHz wireless network frequency, and not the latest standard of 5GHz, this can directly affect the connectivity to the vacuum cleaner through the wireless network.

    Fix #4: Reset the Roomba

In the end, if none of the fixes above seem to work, the only option you have left is performing a factory reset on the Roomba.
