A cold beer, a bowl of snacks, and the game on TV; nothing feels better at the end of a long day. But then you turn your TV on and suddenly it won’t work. The LG TV screen keeps flickering completely ruining your night. Now, instead of a relaxing evening, you’re scratching your head wondering what’s wrong with your expensive TV and how much it’s going to cost you to fix it.
Luckily there are some tips and tricks you can employ at home to fix the problem yourself. Let’s take a look at some of the issues that could be causing your screen to flicker, and how you can fix them without any additional cost.
What does it mean when your LG TV has a flickering screen?
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
I know what you’re thinking – that’s it? It might sound simplistic but a simple reboot of your LG TV can help readjust whatever problem it was facing when you turned it on initially. The trick is not to turn it off, and on again within seconds. Take a minute. Turn the TV off, check the score on your phone, curse the ref, then turn your TV on again.
Hopefully, this will fix the issue. If not then go on to Step 2.
It’s time to unplug
So, the simple off and on didn’t work. Try going for an extreme version. Unplug your TV from the power source and let it be for at least fifteen minutes. After giving the LG TV ample opportunity to get its act together, plug into the power source and turn the TV on again. The TV will have recalibrated its system and the issue should be resolved.
Maybe it’s not you, it’s your cables
Often the issue isn’t with the TV at all. Our TVs have a mess of wires and cables always attached to them. Gaming devices, CD players, HDMI cables, and whatnot. The problem could be arising because one of the cables is either loose or broken.
Start by unplugging your TV and taking the attached cables off. Then, turn your TV on again and plug each cable one at a time. It should be easy for you to figure out which cable, in particular, is giving you issues. Cables can strain or break down on the inside without you being any the wiser. Buy a replacement as soon as possible. They are easily available and don’t cost too much.
Why is my LG TV screen flickering?
What are you watching on your LG TV?
The source of your viewing can give us a clue about why your LG TV screen is flickering so much. Unlike twenty years ago, we now have multiple platforms and options with various programs for entertainment and information to choose from.
Most of the time the problem is with the service provider and not your TV. Try logging on to the streaming service or cable network through another device. If the problem persists on the new device then your stream, feed, or broadcast is corrupted. You can complain to the relevant source’s customer service department. Or try refreshing the app, or server after you close it completely.
Maybe lighten things up a little?
Have you checked the brightness settings on your LG TV? Now would be a great time to do so. Too bright, or too dark screen settings also contribute to the issue of a flickering screen. Go to the settings in your LG TV and check what level they are on. Play around with the levels till you get to a point where the screen stops flickering.
It could just be LG TV flickering screen internal hardware issues
Your TV is a component of many parts. The screen itself has many layers and filters behind it that make the magic work. It could be that one or more parts that make the TV work properly is corrupted.
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to fix this issue yourself. You’ll have to hire a professional to take a look and fix it for you or buy a whole new TV.
How do I fix my LG TV flickering screen?
You may be facing network connectivity problems
If you’re streaming on your TV or using a connected device to watch something, you’ll need to check your internet connection. A lot of times, that’s the culprit. Switch your router off and wait a few seconds. We’d recommend waiting at least 15 seconds before you turn it back on. Reconnect to the internet and see if the problem is still there.
Another contributor could be the location of your router. If connectivity problems are frequent you might want to place your router closer to the TV to make sure it gets stronger signals. But not too close! That could interrupt the screen as well. Just like the force, it should be perfectly balanced.
When was the last time you updated your LG Smart TV?
Trying to live with a smart TV that hasn’t been updated is like living with a regular TV. It’s not bad, but then why did buy a smart TV in the first place? The LG Smart TV is an experience and you shouldn’t miss out on it because you were too eager to watch the latest episode of Succession and skipped the update notification.
Software updates are integral in helping your smart TV work to its optimum capacity. You’ll find the option to update your TV in your TV’s Settings. After the software has updated completely, restart your TV before you get back to binge-watching everything on Netflix.
Go green, but turn the Energy Efficiency off
We’ve all opted for the Energy Efficiency option on our devices to reduce the electricity consumption but it might be messing with your viewing pleasure. LG TVs are a sophisticated machine It needs a certain amount of power to run properly. Energy Efficiency lowers consumption but how can you expect it to work properly if it’s not getting the energy it needs?
Turn the Energy Efficiency option off and see if that’s what was causing the problem, If the screen is fixed it means the TV requires more power to work to its optimum.
